A run-in with a new ninja-like race; a war over natural resources; and a device that has the potential to cause interdimensional havoc -- STAR TREK comic book fans are in for surprises beyond this galaxy. WildStorm and DC Comics announced today plans for the new line of STAR TREK comics with the launch of the Prestige one-shot entitled STAR TREK: VOYAGER(R) -- FALSE COLORS, scheduled to be released in November of 1999.

STAR TREK: VOYAGER -- FALSE COLORS focuses on the popular character Seven of Nine. The story, written by Nathan Archer, tells of an encounter between the Starship Voyager(TM) and a mysterious craft. It looks like a Borg, sounds like a Borg, and acts like a Borg, so it must be a Borg, right? The answer to that question is just one of the surprises in store in this special issue. Nathan Archer is the author of several STAR TREK novels as well as other comic stories, most recently the upcoming novel Spider-Man: Goblin Moon, co-written with Kurt Busiek.

"We believe the creativity and innovation of DC Comics' WildStorm Productions will bring a new excitement to the fans of STAR TREK and comics in general," said Andrea Hein, president of Viacom Consumer Products. "We are very pleased to be reunited with DC."

"We've tapped a number of creative talents who are brand-new to STAR TREK comics, and I'm certain that this new line will more than live up to the success of WildStorm's previous innovative licensed titles."

According to Mariotte, "Many of the top creators in comics are life-long STAR TREK fans, but these are also the creators in highest demand, with the busiest schedules. By initially focusing on one- shots and miniseries instead of ongoing series, we can tap these resources, insuring the highest quality STAR TREK comics possible."

Other upcoming projects include:

• STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION(R) -- THE KILLING SHADOWS, written by Scott Ciencin. Novelist Scott Ciencin has written more than thirty books, including New York Times bestsellers. His most recent is the original hardcover Dinoverse, which received a starred review in Publisher's Weekly. STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION -- THE KILLING SHADOWS, a four-issue miniseries, introduces readers to a ninja-like race called the Bodai Shin, heralds of a great evil known only as The Veil. Shrouded in legend, the Bodai Shin prove to Picard and crew that they're only too real -- and deadly.

• STAR TREK -- CIVIL WAR, written by Ted Adams. Known to comics readers mostly for his work on WildStorm's licensed RESIDENT EVIL comics and the Spawn Movie Adaptation, Adams delivers a Prestige one-shot that puts Kirk, Spock and McCoy on the ground of a non-Federation planet embroiled in a war over natural resources -- a war that could have fatal consequences for the three officers since the transporter isn't working and they're caught in the crossfire.

• STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION -- EMBRACE THE WOLF, written by Christopher Golden and Tom Sniegoski. In addition to being a successful novelist, Golden paired with Sniegoski to write the best-selling Wolverine/Punisher series. Sniegoski is also currently writing Bone, making him the only writer other than Jeff Smith to be allowed to write that popular character. This prolific pair delivers a Prestige one-shot: STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION -- EMBRACE THE WOLF is a sequel of sorts to the classic STAR TREK episode "Wolf in the Fold", often referred to as the Jack the Ripper episode.

• STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION: PERCHANCE TO DREAM, written by Keith R.A. DeCandido. On a tri- gendered planet, where all three genders are required for procreation, a politician makes the mistake of winning office with only one marital partner. The Starship Enterprise(TM), sent in by the Federation to provide inaugural security, soon finds that passions run high on this issue, and a routine mission proves to be anything but. DeCandido is a novelist and the editor on a series of Marvel and WildStorm-based novels. This four- issue miniseries is his first actual comic book scripting work.

• STAR TREK -- ALL OF ME, written by Tony Isabella and Bob Ingersoll. Well-known as columnists for Comics Buyer's Guide, Isabella and Ingersoll have collaborated previously on a Captain America novel. STAR TREK -- ALL OF ME is a Prestige one-shot about a brilliant, troubled scientist who went to school with Spock, and invites Spock to view his latest invention -- a device which can wreak interdimensional havoc if the crew of the Enterprise can't put the brakes on it.

"I've made a real effort to bring exciting talents to this comics line," said Mariotte. "I'm using extensive connections in the science fiction community to approach some people not ordinarily thought of in terms of comics -- though people who, for the most part, have some experience with them - - who can deliver fresh ideas and approaches.
