Notes

  • TV Guide Description: "The crew is restless after two weeks without contact with sentient life, but an encounter with an alien vessel soon alleviates the boredom as the away team discovers the ship is littered with corpses."

  • Apparently features the Axanar, a race first mentioned in Original Series episodes such as 'Whom Gods Destroy' and 'Court Martial,' where Kirk was said to have been awarded with the Palm Leaf of Axanar. (August 20, 2001 - TrekToday)

  • Rumoured to see the Enterprise encountering a derelict ship floating in space, its crew suspended from hooks and all fluids being drained from their body. When the aliens return, it is up to Hoshi Sato to find a way to communicate with them and avoid the destruction of the Enterprise. "A good, creepy episode." (August 21, 2001 - TrekToday)

  • Some minor reshoots occurred several weeks after this episode had finished filming. (August 21, 2001 - TrekToday)

  • Linda Park: "She decides actually that she is not cut out for space. She considers telling the captain that she wants to go back to the University. There's a lot that happens during that episode. It's a really nice turning point early on in the series where she can finally accept space. She has to swallow her fear and force herself to grow. The director was amazing, Alan Kroeker. People will be blown away. And there's some really creepy scary stuff in this episode." (September 20, 2001 - TrekToday)

  • John Billingsley: "There's a marooned alien spacecraft that doesn't answer our hails, and we board it to find the crew has been murdered. We don't know by whom, how or why. And of course with me having all this makeup, pulling the helmet on and off was no easy process. I pulled my prosthetic ears right off with it! So they've had to figure out the shots in a way that don't require me to be in and out of the helmet. They didn't realize when they designed the makeup how much that particular episode would revolve around the needs of the mission." (September 21, 2001 - TrekToday)

  • This episode was first repeated on the 5th of December, 2001.
